Who can be on the Board?

The CDBC Board is composed of 6 elected registrants (2 from Vancouver Coastal, 1 from Fraser Valley, 1 from Vancouver Island and 2 from North/Interior) and 3 public appointed representatives. Any Full Registrant in good standing residing in the correspondent electoral region can be nominated for the election on the Board. To be an efficient Board Director, CDBC nominees should be well versed with the College mandate and have skills in governance, risk management, public policy, finance, strategic planning, and right touch regulation. The Board also welcomes and seeks to have cultural, gender, education, and demographic diversity.

Why is a registrant able to vote for nominees in a specific electoral region during the CDBC Board of Directors election, if the registrant lives outside of that electoral region?

The ability to vote for nominees in any electoral region is in accordance to section 7(4) of the CDBC Bylaws. Under “Election procedure” the bylaws state “Each registrant may vote in favor of one (1) person for each vacant position to be filled.

Is the online voting process for the Board of Directors confidential?

Individual votes are confidential. Once the election closes, the CDBC receives aggregate results from a third-party software without any identifiers. The voting software recognizes and prevents duplicate or fraudulent votes.

How are my registration fees spent?

The Annual Report includes the audited financial statements of the College. This include a high-level breakdown of revenue and expenses. The College publishes its annual report in advance of the AGM, usually during the month of June. You may also plan to attend an AGM, where more information on the financials will be shared. Please contact the College at info@collegeofdietitiansbc.org if you have any specific questions.

Why is it important for me to update the College with my contact information?

According to section 54 of the CDBC bylaws: “A registrant must immediately notify the registrar of any change of address, name or any other registration information previously provided to the registrar.” It is important to maintain an open communication channel with the CDBC so that you can stay informed of regulatory considerations that may impact your practice.
